The Melody Shop is an album of popular encores from the world famous Grimethorpe Colliery Band and was released to coincide with the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest which featured the band.
Since its formation in 1917 Grimethorpe Colliery Band has established itself as one of the most successful bands in the world. Its profile was further increased with the release of the film Brassed Off which featured the band and led to further TV appearances, including TFI Friday. Their popularity is reflected in their busy national and international tour schedules.
Much of the success of their releases is due to major Peter Parkes, who is one of the most successful brass band conductors in modern times. He has conducted over twenty winning performances at the National British Open and European Championships and his recordings on Chandos readily testify to his supremacy in this music.
The music on this album with the exception of a couple of new numbers, has been selected at the request of many member of the audience from the previously performed concert programmes
