Covid-19: Update: 23rd July 2020

During the current unprecedented situation, Chandos Records continues to trade as normally as possible. As many of our staff are working remotely, we would ask you to submit any queries online here rather than by telephone. CD orders are being despatched on the next working day, but understandably delivery times will vary regionally, and may take significantly longer than usual, depending on your location.  Please note that we will not be despatching orders to countries placed ‘on suspension’ by UK’s Royal Mail. We thank you for your understanding, and wish all our customers a healthy outcome!

“On her debut release, young Italian pianist Stefania Argentieri makes a string impression with both her technical confidence and her interpretive flexibility, providing confident, high-contrast performances that are more varied in perspective than those of many competitors in this repertoire…”

“… Pentatone has given Carlos Kalmar and Oregon Symphony rich gleaming sound with a satisfying bass register, where much of this music spends its time… Morton Gould’s Stringmusic makes for a happy surpise…”

"... this is a great discovery of well-crafted, totally unpretentious, charming music. The performances are totally committed to this music and greatly benefit from great expert conducting of Adriano. The sound quality is excellent."

“Here is something at once unique, personal, and highly enjoyable… Nez is a master of mood and atmosphere in the niche she has fashioned for this music… it is really the delicacy and subtlety of her musical imagination that makes this release spellbinding. Every instrument is used in an original way that words can only hint at… a nod must go to the superb soloists collaborating with Nez, who proves to be a sterling pianist. She has written literate, readable notes that fill out her use of Eastern European sources. In sum, this is the best release of contemporary music that I’ve encountered this year and in several years past.”

"This is superior Mozart playing, for its spirit and also for the wealth of relevant detail that is revealed, perhaps because the orchestra plays on period instruments, and certainly because of conductor Willens's awareness, especially in the "Haffner" Serenade, of the conversational quality of Mozart's writing..."

“… So here we have excellent Mozart recordings made varied by the accompaniment and, in the case of K.365, by the nature of the work. I recommend this one to lovers of Mozart.”
