Covid-19: Update: 19th June 2020

During the current unprecedented situation, Chandos Records continues to trade as normally as possible. As many of our staff are working remotely, we would ask you to submit any queries online here rather than by telephone. CD orders are being despatched on the next working day, but understandably delivery times will vary regionally, and may take significantly longer than usual, depending on your location.  Please note that we will not be despatching orders to countries placed ‘on suspension’ by UK’s Royal Mail. We thank you for your understanding, and wish all our customers a healthy outcome!

“… Part of the success of the concertos performance certainly lies in Michael McHale’s high-energy fingers, confidently shifting between glittering decorations and bravura solo spurts. Meanwhile, John Wilson and his BBC musicians are fully a match for Bennett’s nervous rhythms and the melodic urge that won’t be denied, for all the work’s surface ‘modernity’. It’s a really memorable and thoroughly exhilarating piece…”

“… Roderick Williams is effortlessly boyish in the Beethoven, matched by Iain Burnside’s transparent sound. The Schubert begins relaxed, but emotions are soon ratcheted up. Burnside’s unhurried pace and clear pedalling reveals each detail of these beautifully crafted miniatures. Williams’s ‘Ständchen’ … offers a honey-smooth seducer, albeit with a heart of gold…I longed for just a few more rough edges in this beautifully polished recording.”

“This magnificent album sweeps through Gregson’s career of writing for symphonic brass, with a plethora of colours and stylistic influences. Glittering sound and production to boot,” ****

"A superb programme of orchestral and vocal Zemlinsky, often revealing the composer in fraught mood. The playing combines passion with richness." ****
