Notes
We are proud to present Volume III in the series of chamber music by the outstanding Swiss musician Volkmar Andreae, who during his lifetime was better known as conductor of the Zurich Tonhalle orchestra for many years. He was, however, also a composer of notable attainments, and it is only in recent years that his music has come to be much more widely known than at any time before. Earlier releases in our series have met with considerable critical acclaim, and we expect a similar welcome for this new CD as it contains world premiere recordings, including Andreae’s String Quartet in E flat major dating from 1899, when he was 20 years old, his wonderful Violin Sonata and String Trio alongside some beautiful solo piano pieces. The performances are outstandingly sympathetic throughout and the recording quality is state of the art.

Unflamboyant and intelliegent, and at its best engaging, warm-hearted and resourceful.
