Mozart’s six earliest keyboard sonatas were written down by him in early 1775. This album contains the first four of them (KV 279-282), played on an original Anton Walter fortepiano from the time of Mozart. The performance of these pieces requires a deep familiarity with late 18th-century instruments, the thorough knowledge of the conventions of notation and discourse of the music, but above all the rhetoric contained in it. Patrick Cohen brings all of these features together in this 1996 recording.
