Shostakovich: Symphony No. 11. LSO 0030

When Mstislav Rostropovich conducted Shostakovich's music, the results were never less than sensational. He and Shostakovich were close friends and Rostropovich had a unique understanding of the composer's works. The Eleventh Symphony takes a cinematic approach to recounting events surrounding the Russian revolution of 1905. But the intensity of Rostropovich's interpretation and his personal insights point towards Shostakovich's real intentions.
