“Daniel-François-Esprit Auber, a busy opera composer and a perfect representative of French comic opera – he composed about fifty of them – was very popular during his lifetime, but today rarely one of his operas is on an opera houses’ programme. All the more welcome is this CD with overtures and interludes. The Scottish-Italian conductor Dario Salvi has a good instinct for this music, which blossoms brilliantly and richly under his hands. The charming tunes, the rhythmic swing and the respectable orchestral performance offer a good hour of listening pleasure. The sound recording is very direct, and one would have wished it were a little more spacious.” ****
