Critics’ Choice 2021 – Don O’Connor
American Record Guide – January/February 2022
"... It'd be hard to imagine a better introduction to Schmitt's music than this. The performances are outstanding. Platt's singing in Salome and Chooi's playing in Legende are exemplary. Falletta's conducting is first rate, her tempos and phrasing ensuring coherence in the music. She's alert to every nuance, which these pieces have in abundance. The Bufflo Phil sounds radiant, lavishing TLC on every work... If, like me, you an never get enough of fin-de-siecle excess, this recording's for you."

"... Altogether a most desirable release."
Christian Hoskins - Gramophone magazine – February 2021
“… highly enjoyable and should surely make more converts for music that deserves to be much better known than it is.”

Roger Nichols - BBC Music Magazine - January 2021
“… Schmitt created an opulent and sensual music for this drama, from which JoAnn Falletta conducts the Suite op. 83bis. The Buffalo Philharmonic plays with flexible elegance. Schmitt’s Légende for saxophone and orchestra from 1918 can be heard in the composer’s own transcription for violin. BPO concertmaster Nikki Chooi plays the solo part in this opulent piece, which is heard here in a very suggestive performance. So, as the interpretations of this program are excellent, we can only recommend this CD. It is a homage to the music of a composer who should not be neglected despite his political misconduct.” *****
