“… Looking at this disc as a whole, it must be said that the focus on works written to accompany plays inevitably means that there will be short tracks that, while no doubt effective in a real theatrical context, are somewhat diminished when heard blind in a domestic environment. Nevertheless, the longer overtures and ballet sequences provide excellent demonstrations of Marschner’s melodic gifts and technical skill, even in the earliest phase of his career… conductor Dario Salvi is a dab hand at this sort of repertoire and he and his Czech musicians deliver their performances as if they had been performing Marschner’s music all their lives. Their overall achievement is enhanced by the clear and detailed recording.”
