About
Lars Vogt’s new solo piano release is dedicated to the piano works of Leos Janacek (1854–1928), one of the most original voices among the 20th century composers. This album includes three of the composer’s most well-known and most extensive solo piano works. These works by Janacek are marked by deep melancholy and passion. They manifest the composer's rich inner world through a musical language that remains to be timeless. Lars Vogt has established himself as one of the leading musicians of his generation. Born in the German town of Düren in 1970, he first came to public attention when he won second prize at the 1990 Leeds International Piano Competition and has enjoyed a varied career for over twenty-five years. His versatility as an artist ranges from the music of Bach, Mozart and Beethoven, to the romantics Schumann, Brahms, Grieg, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov, to contemporary works such as the Lutoslawski concerto.

International Classical Music Awards 2022
“… when a pianist of Vogt’s talent and temperament tackles it [this repertoire], that is a cause for celebration. His sensitive, superbly realized traversal of these masterpieces is thoroughly recommended.”
Phillip Scott – Fanfare – September/October 2021
“Vogt offers a generally solid rendition of Janacek’s works … He has full command of dynamic range, from softest to loudest; and interpretively these works sound full and vast …”
Sang Woo Kang – American Record Guide – July/August 2021

“Janácek’s signature piano pieces benefit from Vogt’s acutely nuanced playing.” ****
Michael Quinn – Limelightmagazine.com.au – 31 March 2021
“,,, Vogt seems most at home in the two books that make up On an Overgrown Path, balancing a sense of intimacy with a vividness of imagination that brings to life such pieces as ‘Our Evenings’ or the wistful ‘Good Night’, while ‘The Madonna of Frýdek’ is beautifully etched …”

“…The dynamic range of his [Vogt] playing, clear from the start of the cycle is breathtaking as is his delicacy of touch…”
Jan Smaczny - BBC Music magazine - April 2021
”… Lars Vogt succeeds in expressing the intimacy of the music very well with a particularly subtle interpretation…” *****
Remy Franck – Pizzicato.com – 22 February 2021
“… The sound engineering is solid, capturing many of the small details in Vogt’s playing. As for the liner notes, they have a defining feature of some of his previous albums: a conversation about the composer which gives us added perspective… the sincerity in Vogt’s performance makes this more than worthy listen.”
