Kathryn Rudge
Born in Liverpool, the mezzo-soprano Kathryn Rudge completed her studies at the Royal Northern College of Music under Susan Roper in 2011. She has been an ENO Young Artist, an artist under the Young Classical Artists Trust (2010 – 13), and a BBC New Generation Artist (until December 2017). She has won numerous prizes and awards, including the Sybil Tutton Award of the Musicians Benevolent Fund and a Susan Chilcott Scholarship, and is a Samling Scholar. Featured as The Times Rising Star of Classical Music in 2012, she made her debuts to critical acclaim as Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro) at English National Opera and Sesto (La clemenza di Tito) at Opera North. Operatic roles at venues such as Glyndebourne Touring Opera, Opera North, Garsington Opera, English National Opera, and the Buxton Festival include Cherubino, Annio (La clemenza di Tito), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Hermia (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Dorabella (Così fan tutte), Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), and Nancy (Albert Herring). She has appeared in concert with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Philharmonia Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, and BBC Philharmonic under conductors such as Carl Davis, Paul Daniel, Vasily Petrenko, and John Wilson. She has given recitals at the Wigmore Hall and Bridgewater Hall, and at the Brighton, City of London, and Cheltenham International festivals. She is prominently associated with the world premiere of Michael Nyman’s Hillsborough Symphony, celebrations of the 175th anniversary of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, performances of Mozart’s Requiem for Raymond Gubbay, The Dream of Gerontius at the Rheingau Festival and Easter at King’s Festival, A Sea Symphony and The Music Makers with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and Messiah with the Huddersfield Choral Society. She made her BBC Proms début in 2016 and returned in 2019 for a performance of Mozart’s Requiem. Kathryn Rudge released her debut recital album, Love’s Old Sweet Song, in 2014 and presides over an expanding discography.
