Míceál O'Rourke
Míceál O’Rourke leads a busy career as a solo pianist and is a frequent soloist with leading symphony and chamber orchestras. His extensive repertoire of more than fifty piano concertos embraces practically the entire standard repertory and also such rarities as concertos by Szymanowsky, Field, Britten, Respighi and Lutoslawski. For outstanding Chopin performances Mícéal O’Rourke was awarded the Frédéric Chopin Medal by the Polish Artists’ Guild and he has toured several times in Poland as guest of the Frédéric Chopin Society of Warsaw. His festival appearances include St Petersburg, Paris, the Robecco Festival at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Wexford Festival and the Festival in Great Irish Houses. Míceál O’Rourke’s recordings on Chandos include solo recitals of Chopin, Schumann, Debussy and Michele Esposito and when first released his series of eight best-selling discs featuring the music of John Field won several coveted prizes: Classic CD Special Award, Disques de l’Année of Le Monde de la Musique (France), and five Penguin Awards.
