Hailed as ‘remarkable’ by The Daily Telegraph, Matilda Lloyd is a young instrumentalist with exceptional poise and musicality. Born in 1995, she graduated with a First Class degree in Music from Cambridge University in 2017 and received a Master’s Degree (DipRAM) from the Royal Academy of Music in 2019. She went on to study for two years with Håkan Hardenberger at Musikhögskolan i Malmö. Since then she has captivated audiences and critics alike with her artistry, communication, and, in the words of Saarbrücker Zeitung (March 2020), ‘flawless sound and virtuosic technique’, with which she brings a unique flair to every performance. She won the BBC Young Musician of the Year Brass Final in 2014, and in 2016 made her début at the BBC Proms with the BBC Philharmonic under Alpesh Chauhan. The following year, her triumph at the Eric Aubier International Trumpet Competition, in Rouen, France, led to many engagements on the continent. Her recent career has included notable performances with the Britten Sinfonia, Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern, Ignacy Jan Paderewski Pomeranian Philharmonic, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra, and Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra. In the current and forthcoming seasons, she will première a new concerto by Robin Haigh, at the Aldeburgh Festival with the Britten Sinfonia, and in Northern Ireland with the Ulster Orchestra. She will also tour with the London Mozart Players, with whom she is now an Education Ambassador, and return to perform with the Oulu Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre de l’Opéra de Rouen Normandie. In the summer of 2023, she will embark on a multi-date UK tour to celebrate the launch of this disc! Her début album, Direct Message, was released in October 2018, receiving a four-star review in the magazine BBC Music, which described it as ‘a dynamic showcase... A very engaging listen’.
