Formed in 2006, while the members were students at the Gheorghe Dima Music Academy in Romania, the Quartet has performed throughout the world, making appearances at the Budapest Spring Festival, George Enescu International Festival, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Silver Lyre International Festival of Chamber Music in St Petersburg, and Aldeburgh Festival, as well as at the Cité Internationale des Arts and Salle Gaveau in Paris, Alte Oper in Frankfurt, Pollack Hall in Montreal, Wiener Musikverein, Berliner Konzerthaus, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall in London, and in Tel Aviv, besides undertaking extensive tours throughout the United Kingdom and Japan. The Quartet made its BBC Radio 3 debut with a broadcast concert from the Wigmore Hall in March 2015, and in April 2015 was appointed Quartet-in-Residence at the prestigious Centrul Na?ional de Arta Tinerimea Româna in Bucharest, to play six concerts a year, broadcast by the Romanian Broadcasting Company. The Arcadia Quartet issued its debut CD in 2009, a recording of works by Mendelssohn and Brahms that attracted critical acclaim. The magazine Ensemble wrote of the Quartet’s ‘intimate performance’, ‘exceptional sonority’, and an ‘expressive power which leaves a deep impression on the listener’. A recording of Janácek’s Quartets Nos 1 and 2 was released in October 2013, The Sunday Times praising ‘a beauty that pierces the heart’, adding that ‘both works are played with searing intensity by the fine young Romanian quartet’.
