Ferio Saxophone Quartet

A leading group among the new generation of British artists, the Ferio Saxophone Quartet has received enthusiastic reactions from audiences and critics alike. It made its debut at the Purcell Room in 2015, as winners of The Philharmonia / Martins Musical Ensemble Award, and during the same year was winner of the Royal Over-Seas League’s Ensemble Competition. It received the Tunnell Trust Award in 2014 – 15 and was Park Lane Group Artists for the 2016 season. The Quartet was appointed a St John’s Smith Square Young Artist for 2016 – 17, a year in which the programme involved the Quartet in a number of projects focussing on marketing, commissioning, and outreach work in addition to its series of concerts. The ensemble has performed at the Southbank Centre and Conway Hall in London, Cambridge Summer Festival, and Three Choirs Festival, and has given concert tours in Scotland and the Channel Islands. It has also made recent appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe, Brighton, Newbury, Machynlleth, and Petworth Festivals and Wigmore Hall, London. Commissioning new music is an important strand of its work. As Park Lane Group Artists, the Quartet gave the world premiere of a work by Laura Bowler, which it subsequently performed at Wigmore Hall. It also works closely with the composer Guillermo Lago, whose latest commission, inspired by three poems by William Wordsworth, received its premiere performance at St John’s Smith Square, London in April 2017. The Ferio Saxophone Quartet, which recently signed a recording contract with Chandos Records, will tour New Zealand in November 2017 under the aegis of the Royal Over-Seas League.
