London Symphony Orchestra

Since its formation in 1904, the London Symphony Orchestra has become widely regarded as one of the world’s leading orchestras, always attracting excellent players from all over the world. Its roster of soloists and conductors is second to none, including Principal Conductor Valery Gergiev and LSO President Sir Colin Davis. Resident at the Barbican in London, where it presents more than seventy concerts each year, the Orchestra gives a further seventy concerts on tour. It undertakes a successful annual residency at Lincoln Center, New York, is the resident international orchestra of the Salle Pleyel in Paris, and also appears regularly in Japan and the Far East as well as in all major European cities. In 2010 it became the resident orchestra at the Aix-en-Provence Festival. It is an orchestra apart by virtue of its ground-breaking commitment to music education through LSO Discovery – based at LSO St Luke’s, the UBS and LSO Music Education centre, now into its third decade and reaching more than 60,000 people annually – as well its community programme and pioneering work in the field of digital music. Its record company, LSO Live, is currently the most successful recording label of its kind, making the Orchestra available to global audiences on more than eighty recordings. As well as producing CDs, it was one of the first classical labels to embrace the internet and downloads to encourage new audiences to listen to classical music.
