VIVAT is an exciting, artist driven, independent, British classical label, bringing recordings of exceptional artistic merit and outstanding technical quality.
Launched in early 2013, VIVAT’s début release went straight into the British classical charts at # 1. “I was glad: Sacred Music of Stanford and Parry” was also a finalist in the 2013 Gramophone Awards. That has been followed by a series of highly acclaimed recordings – British soprano Carolyn Sampson and Norwegian mezzo Marianne Beate Kielland performing Couperin’s deliciously dark “Trois Leçons de Ténèbres”; the Allegri Quartet in the first of a planned series of Beethoven recordings; a wonderful disc of Monteverdi “Heaven and Earth” from The King’s Consort; another best-selling disc, this time from countertenor Iestyn Davies performing Handel arias; and most recently, a delicious disc of Purcell’s “Ten Sonatas in Four Parts”. Next up will be acclaimed Dutch cellist Viola de Hoog performing Bach’s Six Cello Suites.
2015 will see the first releases in a major new song recital series, bringing together some of the world’s most eminent Lieder singers in a dramatic piece of thematic programming; Bach performed on a historic organ in Italy; another Purcell recording from The King’s Consort; further large-scale English romantic repertoire – and more besides.
