LOUIS LORTIE PLAYS SCHUMANN AND CHOPIN

This Chandos Classics re-issue features the popular coupling of Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor and Chopin’s Concerto No. 2 in F minor. Louis Lortie is the soloist with the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Neeme Järvi. On the original release, CD Review wrote of the performance of Schumann’s Concerto that ‘[Lortie’s] playing is thrillingly imaginative and I cannot recall ever having heard the Finale sound so physically exciting as it does here’; of the performance of Chopin’s F minor Concerto it remarked ‘Lortie produces a scintillating reading which resounds in the mind long after the music has ceased.’ For Chandos, Louis Lortie has just embarked on a recording series devoted to solo piano works by Chopin, of which Volume 1 was released in May 2010.

The popular coupling of Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor and Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor, Op. 21, featuring Louis Lortie as the soloist, is here re-issued on Chandos Classics.
