About
For La Venexiana’s debut recording on Glossa, the ensemble chose Sigismondo d’India’s Third Book of Madrigals, published in 1615, the year after Monteverdi’s Sixth Book. The Sicilian composer’s style is similar in form to the Fifth Book of the latter, suggesting the use of basso continuo at will and even forcing to do so in some of the pieces. With texts by the greatest poets of the time (Tasso, Guarini, etc.), this collection is a truly enjoyable set.
