PROKOFIEV: PETER AND THE WOLF / PUSHKINIANA / SUITE FROM ‘CINDERELLA’
Peter and the Wolf is an essential part of any Prokofiev collection and anthology. This recording is narrated by Lina Prokofiev, the composer’s widow. She was in her late eighties at the time and had already performed the work in New York. Our conductor, Neeme Järvi, suggested that they record the work together and Music magazine voted this version of the piece their first choice, commenting that it offers a most delightful and magnetic performance. It is complemented here with a suite from the ballet Cinderella and a number of short pieces associated with the poetical works of Pushkin.

Reviews
The composer’s widow contributes a spirited narration of Peter and the Wolf, whose delicious score is played and conducted in roistering, colourful style – so is the Cinderella Suite
Classic FM Magazine
For many, the most popular reissue in the series will be the utterly delightful performance of Peter and the Wolf, the narration of which is both authentically and beautifully delivered by Prokofiev’s widow Lina, then in her late eighties. As the music is outstandingly well played and then recording is magnificent, this has to be the finest version ever of this perennial masterpiece
