About
Having already won many prizes and awards (The Philharmonia/Martin Musical Ensemble, Royal Over-Seas League’s Ensemble Competition, Tunnell Trust Award) and appointed St John's Smith Square Young Artist of the year for 2016 – 17, the Ferio Saxophone Quartet is Europe's most exciting up-and-coming ensemble of its kind.
This, its debut commercial CD, features original works written for saxophone quartet. Composers range from Gabriel Pierné and Jean-Baptiste Singelée to Eugène Bozza and Guillermo Lago (who wrote The Wordsworth Poems specially for the Quartet this year).
Through this choice of repertoire, the Ferio Quartet is inviting listeners to experience a number of musical styles and moods, playing works from the time of the saxophone’s invention right up to the present day.
The Quartet has already been featured as a rising star ensemble in many classical music magazines, such as BBC Music and Classical Music, as well as shows such as BBC Radio 3 ‘In Tune’ and Classic FM studio videos.

Reviews
"...The work that they have done here is gorgeous in every way..."
Raymond Tuttle - Fanfare - Jan/Feb 2018
"... The first half consists of delightful Gallic staples... The second half explores the eclectiscism of the present day...The concert is strong and convincing. The Ferio Quartet plays with nimble technique, mature phrasing, exquisite an forceful dynamics, and excellent balance, blend, and teamwork. The traditional selections come across as fresh and exciting, and the contemporary contributions have the emotional investment and attention to detail that make them an easy sell..."
Patrick Hanudel - American Record Guide - November/December 2017
“...This is a kaleidoscopically varied and generous recital of tune-centred tonal music. It is played with aplomb and affection... Chandos more than meet the music half way with the label's usual attention to warmth and punchiness of sound and well calculated documentation.”
Rob Barnett - MusicWeb-International.com - 13 September 2017
“... Playing is of the highest level throughout, as is the stunning recorded sound.” *****
Guy Weatherall – Classical Music magazine – September 2017
“...Lots to discover and enjoy here, then, in intensely musical performances... the artistry of the performances is beyond question.”
Richard Bratby - Gramophone magazine - September 2017

“... the Ferios certainly have skill on their side, and every emotional hue you could want – smoky, honeyed, Shrieking or sad”
Geoff Brown – BBC Music magazine – October 2017
