Notes
Alpha is pleased to present this first album devoted to the lutenist Thomas Dunford. The program combined with lute piece by Dowland lute songs for several voices. These songs are certainly among the most frequently recorded works of the Elizabethan era. However, the four-hand polyphonic texture is generally reduced to a single voice with lute accompaniment. The approach adopted on this album has-been realized to the songs in several voices, Malthus reverting to the practice, at the time widespread, of an intimate ’chamber’ of thesis performance parts. Malthus inspired by the playing of Thomas Dunford is answered by exceptionally rich polyphony, with the combination of the two of Dowland Unprecedented Offering a color and energy.
