About
Following his acclaimed first recording for Alpha Classics, Saga, the German baritone Konstantin Krimmel continues to tell us stories, with a programme focusing on Zauberoper or ‘magic opera’.
Accompanied by the Hofkapelle München orchestra conducted by Rüdiger Lotter, Krimmel explores operas by Mozart, Salieri and Gluck, alongside less well-known titles by Paul Wranitzky and Peter von Winter: spectacular musical comedies from the eighteenth-century Viennese repertory, with their enchanted fairytale universe.

“… This beautiful recital, intelligent project, was recorded in the Neustädter Universitätskirche … confirms the talent of a young singer very invested, who has a bright future ahead of him and whose career will be followed with great attention. It is superbly supported by the Hofkapelle Munich, a formation that has existed for just over ten years and plays on historical instruments. Its founder, Rüdiger Lotter (°1969), has an innate sense of refinement and nuance. Moments entrusted to the orchestra alone testify to this. The album ends with the Reigen seliger Geister ('Round of Blessed Spirits'), from Gluck's Orfeo e Euridice. So much finesse!”
Jean Lacroix – Crescendo magazine.be – 29 November 2022
“…With his suave, rather tenorish baritone, Krimmel duly savours these assorted plebeian philosophers and pantomime villains… All the while Rüdiger Lotter’s Munich period band are energetic, colourful accomplices… an entertaining celebration of Viennese popular operatic taste in the age of Mozart.”
Richard Wigmore – Gramophone magazine – December 2022

“… The whole program, however, is interesting and attractive, especially since the interpretations are exquisite, marked by a stirring dynamism. With his agile, slender and pleasantly timbred voice, rich in color, Konstantin Krimmel succeeds in very characteristic performances. Thanks to an exemplary articulation, the text comprehensibility is optimal. Very dynamic and colorful, rich in detail, ideally transparent and fresh is the no less exciting music-making of the Hofkapelle München under Rüdiger Lotter... The pin sharp, ideally disposed sound image is excellent. And so then singers, orchestra and sound engineering form a triad that realizes the program concept of this production all at the highest level.”
