About
Rachmaninoff: Piano Concertos Nos 1 and 4 – Simon Trpceski, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Vasily Petrenko
Simon Trpceski’s recording of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concertos Nos 2 and 3 was one of the most acclaimed and best-selling classical releases of 2010. His frequent collaborations with Vasily Petrenko and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra are justly celebrated. Together they complete the Rachmaninoff canon with this highly anticipated follow-up: Concertos Nos 1 and 4 and the ‘Paganini’ Rhapsody. The previous release made the Top 3 of the UK Specialist Classical Chart and won a Diapason d’or de l’année.

"... An impressive Rachmaninov: there is real chemistry between Trpceski and Petrenko." ****
Greg Keane - Limelight magazine (Australia) - October 2011

Calum MacDonald - BBC Music magazine - August 2011
Editor’s Choice
"... all three works sound fresh, dynamic and vital. Already attracting labels like ’dream team’, this is a musical combination which works superbly, and this much anticipated follow up to their earlier Rachmaninov recording demonstrates a fabulous level of skill, artistry and appreciation." *****
Jane Jones - Classic FM magazine - August 2011
What an amazing rapport these two have and now we have the entire Rachmaninov Piano orchestra favourites to review. Liverpool Phil are known as the best Russian Orchestra outside of Russia, by this CD you will hear they are probably a bit better than that.
The performance never tries to impress for the sake of it, it is controlled and purposeful throughout. Nevertheless the playing is sonorous and impassioned.
One note: The last few tracks had a loud swoosh across parts of them. I mailed the support desk and they re-cut and re-sent them instantly. Pretty impressive when Amazon often just say sorry and take off sale under the same circumstances.
And also cheaper than anyone else.
Can't go wrong!
