Notes
Late Baroque composer Johann Joseph Fux (1660-1741) is most well-known for his treatise on counterpoint, Gradus ad Parnassum, which remains the most influential writing on the Palestrinian style of Renaissance polyphony. This new two-disc set features the complete recording of Fux’s “Concentus musico-instrumentalis in septem partittas, ut vulgo dicimus divisus,” which consists of a Serenade in three parts, a Sinfonia a 6, four Overtures, and a Sinfonia in three voices. The first Hofkapelle Graz was formed in 1564. Since that ensemble was established much has changed. The Neue Hofkapelle Graz combines the old and traditional ideas with new life. The ensemble is led by first violinist Lucia Froihofer and harpsichordist Michael Hell.

"...Fux is an underrated composer. His operas and sacred choral works are well crafted and very appealing. In the capable hands of the Neue Hofkapelle Graz, it would appear that Fux's orchestral music also ranks with the best of his time."
