Notes
Subtitled 'The French Connection' this sequel to the popular and critically acclaimed first volume contains well known pieces such as 'Les Biches' and 'Pulcinella' and some fascinating rare excerpts from ballets such as 'The Flames of Paris' and the quirky 'The Boiled Egg' by Thiriet. The album also includes two works later choreographed: Debussy's Printemps and the Françaix Serenade. Each work is by a French composer or linked by subject to Paris.
This was the last solo recording made by 'the brilliant Anthony Goldstone' (BBC Music Magazine) and we are sorry that he did not live to see it released. As an example of both his superb musicianship and also his constant desire to record fine but neglected works (see the link above to see his discography), it is as good as any and a wonderful memorial to his work and passion.

"...The entire program is balanced and a continuous joy to listen to. The Debussy is the largest, most serious piece and has to be quite difficult for a single pianist to bring off. Others have the kind of humor we often associate with Poulenc and even some Gershwin-inspired jazz moments. Recorded sound and liner notes are up to the highest standards..."
James Harrington - American Record Guide - November/December 2017
"Anthony Goldstone's final recording is a rich serving of French and French-inspired delights, all recorded in their solo piano arrangements for the first time." ***
Oliver Condy - BBC Music magazine (Brief Notes Section)- July 2017
