CHRISTINE BREWER: GREAT OPERATIC ARIAS, VOLUME 2
‘Hats off, gentlemen. A diva. The real, rare, wondrous thing. Her name is Christine Brewer.’ With these words the Evening Standard described the first of Christine Brewer’s operatic recitals on the Opera in English label, released a couple of years ago. The new disc includes arias from Handel’s Rodelinda, Gluck’s Alceste, Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, Beethoven’s Fidelio, and Korngold’s Die tote Stadt – perhaps the most memorable song in an opera now being staged by The Royal Opera, Covent Garden for the first time. The London Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted by David Parry, and the disc also offers duets with Timothy Robinson and Judith Howarth. Christine Brewer will be at the Metropolitan Opera in New York singing Brünnhilde in Wagner’s Ring from 16 March to 8 May.

Reviews
This is a spectacular demonstration not only of Christine Brewer’s vocal strength with every note firm from top to bottom, but of her extraordinary versatility in this wide range of repertory.
Gramophone
Christine Brewer stands among the past half century’s finest sopranos, one of those all too rare dramatic voices shaped by artistry rather than overwhelming force. She also has the advantages of effortless musicianship and expressive variety on her side, qualities ever present in her second ‘Opera in English’ recital for Chandos.
